An important part of your wedding process is choosing your bridesmaids. Today our real bride Sophie is sharing some creative ways that you could use to ask your friends to be your bridesmaids.

I know that choosing your bridesmaids an be a difficult task and can take much deliberation. After all it’s an important role.Your bridesmaids are the ones who help you prepare in the build up to your day and on the wedding day itself. Once you have made your decision, it’s time to find a way to ask them. With so many creative bridesmaid proposal ideas across the internet I want to share my favourite 6 – and let you know where you can buy them from locally!

1. ‘Will you be my bridesmaid’ cards

My all-time favourite way to ask someone to be your bridesmaid is with a card. You can buy some amazing cards online or even have one designed to match your wedding theme. Write a personal message inside and it’s something that they can keep forever. A card is a very personal way to show them how much you love them and why you want them to be your bridesmaid. If budget is tight then you don’t have to buy one you can make one, for an added personal touch maybe with a photo on the front (that’s what I did). For me watching people’s reactions to the question and the message was so special. Lots of excited smiles, tears and hugs! This is a great way to ask someone if they don’t like a big fuss.

2. Take them out for a meal (breakfast, brunch, lunch, afternoon tea or dinner).

You could do this as a group or individually. A meal is a great way to spend some quality time together and to ask them. Pick their favourite place or a place that is special to you both.Pick a place that doesn’t get too busy so that it is a special moment which isn’t drowned out or ruined by all the noise and waiters/waitresses coming over constantly.

3. Bridesmaid proposal boxes

A bridesmaid proposal box usually has the person’s name on the front and then either a “Will you be my bridesmaid?” message on the inside of the lid or a card. The gifts inside the box can be anything from a bridesmaid t-shirt to a small bottle of alcohol or a bridesmaid planning notebook It’s completely up to you. There are many ways to do this, either finding something pre-made like the beautiful boxes from Otter and Moose, or making one from scratch. There are so many options when it comes to a bridesmaid proposal box but just be careful you don’t give them the same gifts on the wedding day, make sure you find something for the big day that you haven’t already given them.

4. A ‘will you be my bridesmaid’ message in a frame

Asking your friend with a message in a frame is a lovely touch. Asking this way means she gets to keep the new artwork to hang somewhere in her house. You can get creative with the design of the message and design it to fit the colour scheme of your wedding.

4. A personal timeline of friendship in the form of a photo album.

A photo album will allow you to reminisce over all the good times you have had together and all the milestone things that have happened. You will laugh at some of the funny fashion choices, hairstyles or things you have done. At the end of the photo album you could put a message or card in one of the spaces with the all important will you be my bridesmaid question. You can probably see a theme arising in what I’m saying but giving your girls something that they can keep to treasure is meaningful and special for them. With this one you could even go scrapbook style and put captions and decorate the pages.

5.Messages in balloons

My final one is a very fun idea. Having a balloon custom printed or putting a message inside a balloon is a really fun ideas. You could put the balloon in a box that says unwrap me and out will pop the balloon. Alternatively create a balloon that says ‘pop me’ and hide the ‘will you be my bridesmaid’ message on the inside. I love the element of surprise, and I think it’s a trend we will see increasingly more of over the next couple of years. This idea might be fun for a younger bridesmaid, providing they aren’t scared of balloons.

However you choose to ask your friends to be your bridesmaids you are guaranteed to have a special moment. Remember to take lots of photographs as you create new memories. Let me know how you plan to ask your friends in the comments below.Sophie xoxo
